Patchwork pieces

It’s been a while since I did any patchwork quilting.  The fiddly pieces of fabric and worry over matching up corners puts me off a little.  And unlike knitting, there’s no way you can do it on the bus or in front of the telly.  But making this gift at the weekend got me back in to the swing of things.  Ever since, I’ve been pulling quilt books off the shelves and revisiting favourite Anna Maria Horner fabrics and Denyse Schmidt designs.  I’m not sure I have the attention span for a whole blanket at the moment, but I’m sure I’ll be stitching a few more patchwork pieces soon.

  1. This looks lovely. When I moved here I had quilting lessons (for 5 years!) and have made loads of quilts for friends and family – very theraputic if only I now had the time!! On a different note – I have a whole bag of assorted wools, mostly Collinette and I wondered if you might be interested in them? There is quite a bit of assorted mohair and a couple of whole hanks of multi point five (I think it’s called). There’s a carrier bag full which I’m looking for £20 for. Let me know – no worries if you aren’t.

    • Lessons sounds like a great idea; I bet you have mad skills! Thanks for the yarn offer! I’m short on space and have vowed to not buy any more until I start using some of what I’ve got! But have you considered bringing it along to Knit Wits at Jolliffe’s on a Tuesday evening? I’m sure someone would love it!

      • Don’t know about that but I can sew in a straight line!! Thanks for the heads up about Knitwits – I know the chap who runs Joliffes so will enquire.

  2. I’ve just discovered your blog! It’s beautiful. I live in Kent and have holidayed on the island since i was 5 or 6. We stay in Newbridge every summer for two weeks and i absolutey hate coming back home. If i had my way i’d move to the island permenantly, i have never felt so at home somewhere as i do there.
I am very envious of your lovely life on the isle of wight and so glad i’ve discovered your blog.
I work in London and it was thick fog this morning but has cleared to brilliant sunshine now. I hope its just as sunny there.
    Wishing you a happy Friday

    • Thanks Gemma, that’s very sweet of you! I know how you feel, leaving the Island for London. I used to live in Peckham and it was always hard to return after a weekend of seaside and fresh air!
      Thanks for stopping by!
